Hello, everyone. I've been off-list a while. My 2nd trimester just about killed me (severe Depression and thyroid issues), but I'm on the mend. I'm 6 months along now and improving every day, but now I've got a crisis I'm dealing with that I really need support on.
Originally, I planned a homebirth assisted by Anne Lestrape (Lafayette), but that's no longer an option for me, because I've been designated high risk. I've been seeing "Dr. R" and preparing for a hospital birth. The problem is, I've got a huge compatibility conflict with Dr. R. I just went in for my 6-month visit, but that will be the last time I visit that office. I've got to find a NBF OB in Lafayette as soon as possible. I'm concerned, too, about finding a doctor at a hospital near to me (near the mall). I tend to deliver very quickly, and a drive across town might be detrimental. I would be profoundly grateful for any advice or recommendations. I'm so frustrated this has come up so late in the pregnancy, and I know the transition process is going to be a royal pain in the rear, but it's absolutely necessary, and time is of the essence. |

I don't have any good advice, but wanted to let you know I'll be praying for you! :) I hope you find the right doc.

I wouldn't worry so much about finding a doc close to the hospital just one that delivers at your hospital. Quite frankly there is no telling where your doc will be on your baby's chosen day of arrival, so it doesn't really matter much. I would find a practice you are comfortable. If you do deliver quickly even a close doc may not arrive in time and well, the faster you go the more likely all your wishes will come true.
I switched docs around 32 weeks with my first one. It's still plenty of time. |

Unfortunately I do not know enough about the Laf area, have you checked out the Laf page in the about section? Jenny and Sandy have been keeping it up to date with resources. I really hope you can find a solution that will work for you, it is frustrating but you do have plenty of time. Do you mind my asking why you are deemed high risk?

I have been visiting some of the local doctor's in order to update our page. Feel free to call me and I can tell you what I know so far. 591-8310 I also had thyroid issues with my pregnancy. They resolved with changes in medication and I was able to birth at a birth center. Best Wishes. Sandy

I am so sorry to hear this. I have been wondering how you've been. Sandy is probably your best bet in finding out more about the docs. I wish you luck I'll pray that everything goes well. Keep us updated.

Yes. I was going to say the same thing. You may also want to call Kira Smith, she is a doula in the Lafayette area and has been actively doula'ing (?) with alot of docs in the area. Her info is also in the "About" tab above, scroll down to Lafayette and you'll find her number and our lists of docs, etc. (Amy mentioned the same link). I would definitely check this list with Kira and Sandy though.
I would also encourage you to deliver at Lafayette General! HUGS - I've been wondering where you were too.... Jenny |

Hi there,
We missed you at the LNB meetings! I had Dr Rose Kennedy and she was great - i was totally straightforward about what I did and didn't want early on, and we went completely intervention-free when the time came. She only delivers at The Pavilion (Laf Gen), though, so I don't know if that would work for you or not. The nurses at Laf Gen are wonderful too. If you need any contact details etc let me know! Hope you're well. Lizzie |

I've heard great things about Dr. Kennedy too. Also Dr. Alison Taylor.
