Once again, I have a pretty bad case of strep. The doc wants to put me on some steroids and I can't seem to find too much about they're effect on milk on the net. I've also lent out my copy of Medications and Mother's Milk (great book, can't recommend it highly enough) so I don't know what to do. The doc said she was pretty sure it was safe for babies b/c she has prescribed it to babies before, but it didn't even occur to me to ask if it might affect my supply... since it's purpose is to shrink my tonsils. Anybody with any experience?

I had a shot a while back when I had been nursing for just 3 weeks. The steroid did not affect my milk supply. You can always take fenugreek and/or drink mothers milk tea. This really helped to boost my milk supply. If you are worried about your production of milk.

My cousin finally called me back and read the bit about methylpredinsolone to me. It is pregancny category C and lactation category L2. So, there ya have it if anyone else was wondering.

Good to know. I've had doctors refuse when I was really sick because I was nursing. I've been nursing or pregnant for 5 years now. Some doctors will give a steroid shot, others won't.
