...tell me all you guys know about getting pregnant with an IUD.

I'm six days late and kinda freaking out. I have none of the premenstrual symptoms I usually have. No tender breasts, no back pain, no cramps, no mood swings, no discharge. I dont think I would be freaked out if one if I had one of my normal symptoms. I've been tracking my cycle for nine months and I have never been this late or this late with no symptoms.

Thanks guys!

It can happen. per a doc I know, go to your ob soon and if you are pregnant have the IUD removed asap. IUDs can cause you to miscarriage if you do get pregnant or can cause weird things to happen to the baby. The weirdest story I heard from my doc was of one baby that was born holding the IUD in his hand.

i have one friend who did get pregnant when she had the IUD and everything was fine. I don't know how long I should wait before I take a test. I got it in at the Health Unit, I'm sure they will remove it for me.

A close friend of mine became pregnant while she had an IUD. It came as quite a surprise. She is due anytime now. No complications to my knowledge, though.

Well, it was 30 years ago, so different in that regard, but mother got pregnant with an IUD and lost the baby :( It was in between me and my 1st brother.

Depending on the IUD you have, it could just be a side-effect. Some IUDs decrease or stop monthly periods.

I have one girlfriend who got pregnant with an IUD (copper) and went on to have a healthy baby boy. No issues whatsoever. I have another girlfriend who got pregnant on an IUD (Mirena) like 6 times in two years. She would have enough hormone to get a positive on a test after being a week late, and then would lose the baby by the time she arrived for her 6 week appointment to get the IUD removed and go on with the pregnancy. I finally convinced her to remove the IUD after she lost another baby last month. That is simply not how they are supposed to work.

Good luck. Keep us updated!!

Thanks guys for all the info and personal experience. I finally started my period on Friday. It is very light as it was last cycle. Since I use a period app on my iphone I can track it and see the patterns. I have a Paraguard which is one of the copper IUD's mainly becuase the hormone BC's make me nuts (ok more nuts ;)

I will start a new job on Tuesday with no benefits yet, so I was kinda freaking out because of this new job and being late. Plus all the PMS hormones!
