Hi Everyone!

My name's Megan and I just moved to the Lafayette area full-time after living here part-time (winters, mostly) for about 7 years. I'm a writer; my partner is a musician. I'm originally from Ithaca, NY, one of the Northeast's great "hippie towns," where the culture of birth is a little bit different from here. Midwife births in hospitals are standard in my circle of friends up there, with a large minority choosing homebirths and a very small minority choosing OBs (usually based on insurance, not preference), and of course the occasional necessary C-section or lesser intervention does happen, with no judgment. Everyone breastfeeds, almost everyone wears their baby at least sometimes, and natural living is sort of standard, thus, natural parenting follows in suit. (After I finish posting this, I'm going to post in the baby shower thread... they CAN be great, I swear!!)

So what the heck am I doing here? Well, there's the snow issue, for starters. I hate snow. :) And I do love it here, for lots and lots of reasons, not the least of which is Gentle Choices (for all of Ithaca's positive birth culture, there's no freestanding birth center -- it's either hospital or home) where, if all goes well, we'll be delivering in early-mid May. I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't slightly concerned about moving down here and trying to raise my son the way I was raised, but I was thrilled to find this group (and its offshoots) -- it's very reassuring to know that there is a growing culture of birth-positive mamas down here! I can't wait to meet some of you at meetups!

Yes, Welcome Megan! We hope to meet you soon. I moved away for about 10 years and I just couldn't stay away from south Louisiana. We have more culture in our pinky toe than other states do in their entire "body"! That being said, I love our little group....and there are lots of "natural" moms in the Lafayette area, I am just convinced they are hiding themselves! hee hee

Hi everyone,
My name is Tara, I am pretty new to this site and excited to be here. I met some of the mom's at the meetup a couple of weeks ago. I love the fact that there is a group that can offer support in the areas that are important to me. Most of my friends think I am nuts to want to have a natural birth and to breastfeed my baby.

I am expecting my 4th and am due May 29th (or sometime around then). I have had 3 natural births at Woman's Hospital in BR w/ no issues and expect the same this time. I have a new OB this go round so there may be some differences but shouldn't be to many.
I am looking to connect w/ some local moms-to-be since this is the first time I don't know anyone else to go through this with.

I have BF all of my babies so far. With the first two I had no issues but w/ my son I had tons of issues and he just stopped at 6 months completely. :-(

It's been awhile since I had the chance to meet some of you. We're still trying and I'm hoping it will be soon. I decided to get more serious and do an ovulation kit and some tracking this month. So hopefully I'll be able to post my good news in months to come!
