I want to go back to school to be a midwife, but I am not really sure of the course that has to be taken. I really don't want to go to out of state because I am married with children, etc. Does anyone have experience with it? Do I have to go to nursing school then specialize? I already have a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology/pre physical therapy. Thanks in advance for advice!

If you are looking to be a homebirth midwife I would contact a homebrith midwife (Anne, Lenny, Sherri, Emmy). The can help you decide on a school and aprenticeship.
If you are looking to be a CNM and work in the hospitals then I do believe you need nursing school first. Sandy and Amanda are both members of this group and are L&D nurses at the BRG, they are pursueing a CNM liscense. You can contact them for advice as well. We had this discussion with the CPMs a while back and I just can't remember what all was said and don't have my notes handy right now. I do remember the advice from both CPM's present being to contact them first, they are always open and available. You can find the contact info for them in the about section of our site. |

When researching CNM and CPM you should also consider where and how you would like to practice. CNMs are able to practice differently in different states, as are CPMs.
